Where has 2022 gone? The year is half over already! I wanted to take this opportunity to fill you in on
some happenings at Old Brick.
In the past year much has been happening. We had a new roof put on Volharden Hall
(we were lucky it lasted a long time)! We had the peeling plaster and paint in the church repaired and
painted. The painters did such a terrific job that you can't tell where the problem areas were. In order
to do the painting we had the organ pipes taken down, cleaned and put back up.
As we all know the roof on the church needs some repairs and the steeple needs to be replaced. After
the first of the year, Consistory and Admin made the decision to sell the Manse. John Esau's Father
(Dan Alsalameh) was our listing agent. We listed the house for $530,000 and it sold for
$545,000!!!! On top of that, Dan very graciously donated his portion of the commission back to Old
Brick!! I personally can’t thank him enough for all he did to make the sale as painless as possible! With these funds we can get our "house in order". We are currently waiting for a bid on the needed repairs. After these repairs, the monies will be invested to help with housing costs for the next minister.
Over the Summer, I met with the gentlemen that painted the church. They supplied us with an estimate
to paint Volharden Hall. It was looking dingy and needed a face lift before we get a new minister. The
painting of the hall took place last week. Please come by to appreciate their fine workmanship.
Speaking of a new minister…..Classis required us to update the Self Study Report we submitted in
2012. Thanks to Kim Bynoe and the committee back then that Self Study was very well done and easy
to update.
George and Janet will be with us till the last Sunday in September (09/25/22). I know we will all certainly miss them, but they have earned a happy retirement. We are planning a luncheon for that last
Sunday. While we don’t need firm reservations, it would help in our planning if you could send an
email to either myself or Sharon Sanicola with your intentions to attend or not.

Let's send George and Janet off with lots of Old Brick Family Love. They have blessed us with their
words of wisdom and music for almost 10 years now.
Well, I think that about brings us up to date. Hope to see you in soon in worship!
Sincerely,
Laura Hogan
